In October 2006, there was a meeting about bison restoration. This was a meeting of parks, bison conservationists, the Intertribal Bison Coop and others. All these different people working together towards restoring bison to the great American plains.
Here's a story about why and how 31,000,000 buffalo were killed between the years 1868 and 1885. And also here is a bison timeline.
Fortunately, today bison are being reintroduced into Minnesota. To me, this seems like the right thing to do.
We can find more opportunities to help out and learn about the Bison. And list them here.
And if you live in the Midwest, maybe you can check out a bison conference. The American Bison Society was founded in 1905 to save bison from extinction, then they dismantled after 10 years. In 2005 the society was re-established.
