LEARN ABOUT CREATURES

(IN OUR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS)

this project is called LOCAL BIOLOGY (until we think of something better)

Projects

Project on hold until at least mid-2010

Well, I'm not exactly sure what happened, but we abandoned this project for a good 6 months. I don't think the project is abandoned forever. Basically, I had a conceptual breakdown and realized that the approach didn't align with my actual goals. My actual goals are undetermined...so I had to stop putting energy into this project and take a step back.

But I will leave this site up for reference of the idea... (chach, 11/01/2009)

We actually do things outside

We learn about things that live near us.
We share how we learn about nature through this website.
We invent activities to help us learn about wild things near home.

We volunteer for conservation projects and blog about it.
We make field guides for our own neighborhoods.
We learn about all kinds of life.
We focus on improving our own perception of nature - listening, observing and being patient.

Ultimately, we believe in understanding the planet we’re trying to save - and sharing what we learn with others who are also new.

Disclaimer

We don't know all the birds.
When we make 'data,' it is noisy and totally not useful to 'science' (and we're fine with this.)
We don't pretend to know all taxonomic names for everything.
We don’t care about competing with birders to make a really long birding life-list...we just want to find bird babies.
